Novella 1 in the Bigwood Peak Series
The summer tourist season is just getting started in the small mountain town of Bigwood Peak. The lodges, restaurants, outfitters, and tour guides are gearing up for the three months that define whether the year will be a success or a failure economically.
I used to come to Bigwood Peak with my family every year, back when I was a child. My wealthy parents and I have since drifted apart, and we haven’t been to the resort town in eight years. This summer, I’m spurning the planned trip to Europe in favor of doing something on my own.
Eighteen years old and just graduated from high school, I’m heading to Bigwood Peak along with many of my peers, taking on temporary jobs to help service the hordes of summer tourists. I’m looking forward to staying at the Talcott Lodge to live and work for the summer. I don’t have much planned, other than enjoying the natural mountain beauty and gaining a bit of independence in an area I have fond memories of. I only have one concrete goal – to lose my virginity before I start college in the fall.
I don’t stress about the summer tourist season as much as most citizens of Bigwood Peak do. I love helping operate my family’s luxury lodge all year, but I have no real need of the income. Being a member of the ultra-wealthy Talcott family has its perks.
Called one of the most eligible bachelors in the state, I have no trouble finding female companionship. I relish the deluge of beautiful women every summer tourist season brings. Finding something serious is the furthest thing from my mind. At least until Caroline Norton enters my office to begin her summer job. She doesn’t know it yet, but she’s going to be mine.
